Newly promoted sides Eibar and Deportivo had tight clashes last season in Segunda División, with the former only ahead of the latter by one goal on the two-legged fixtures they engaged in. They were last season’s champions and runner-up, respectively.

Eibar

Despite being promoted to the Spanish top-flight league only for the very first time in their history, Eibar managed to debut in the competition with a rather impressive result. They successfully toppled the more veteran Real Sociedad as they scored the only goal of the battle via an excellent Javi Lara effort in the first half. A good defense also helped them hold their opponents in a scoreless deadlock throughout the second period. In their next battle, and one that was truly predictable, Armeros succumbed to their rivals—the last season’s overall champions Atletico Madrid. Their performance was still relatively impressive though, as they went home not completely empty handed with an Abraham goal scored in the 33rd minute.

Deportivo de La Coruña

Depor finished as runners-up last season in the second division and expectations—especially from their fans—were high for them. This might have taken a toll on their confidence and the top-flight pressure further exacerbated the situation. Brancoazuis debuted in the tournament with a poor result, defeated by Granada on a two-goal lead. Luckily, they did not submit to their rivals without a fight as they completed their affair with one goal to hold on (thanks to Ivan Cavaleiro’s opener). In their second and most recent tourney, they netted more goals and earned their first top-flight point of the season. The side scored the opener via Jose Rodriguez but the opposition’s Bueno delivered a brace and almost sealed the win for Rayo Vallecano. Fortunately, Cuenca’s extra-time penalty was successfully converted and the match ended in a draw.

Football betting tip: Depor will incur a second league defeat at the hands of Eibar.
