Recap

Genoa’s 14th place finish last season was not that bad considering the fact that it has been on the 17th spot for the past two (2) seasons. They had been struggling for survival. Many times, they had been pitted to have an early exit in the tournament, but they always defy the odds.

The performance last season may not be their best, but certainly, it was much better than what they did before.

Match to remember

Genoa ended the season with a bang. Paired against the capital club and the top pick of sports betting sites, AS Roma, the Rossoblu embarrassed the crowd favorite when a late goal from Ioannis Fetfarzidis gave Genoa the lead and eventually, the victory.

Match to forget

Genoa suffered an early thrashing at the onset of the 2013/2014 season. In its second match, the club surrendered to Fiorentina. The latter trampled them with five (5) massive goals.

But the Fiorentina defeat was not the last in Genoa’s list of humiliating defeat. Prior to the Roma stunner, the squad endured a disappointing 4-2 loss against the rock bottom club, Sassuolo.

The scene-stealers

Alberto Gilardino snatched fifteen (15) points for the Rossoblu last season and it will be unfair to disregard his contributions for the squad.

However, if there is any player, who stood out in the tournament, it was Genoa’s goal keeper, Mattia Perin.  Hailed as Man of the Match in six (6) matches, his dramatic saves are one of the reasons behind Genoa’s survival.

Latest additions

Tottenham’s Iago Falque has returned to Serie A and found himself at home at Genoa. Falque was a previous loanee from Juventus and was soon signed by Tottenham. But with just a single appearance last season, Falque decided to go back to the Italian top-flight league.
