Serie A Preview: Juventus and Lazio simmering a combat anew

Updated: August 27, 2013

Juventus (The Old Lady) and Lazio (The Eagles) were both remarkable in their opening stunts for Serie A, winning their respective matches in spine-tingling spectacles. Their impressions marked renewed interests from online bookies and supporters alike to assign bets for the possible near-the-top finishers by the end of the Italian football tournament. But for now, focusing on their early stage battles would be a better fit to gauge both sides’ capability to continue their outstanding journey. The two sides will be meeting for their first duel for the season on September 1 at the Juventus Stadium in Torino.

Bright start for Juventus

Last season’s defending champions, Juventus, shone bright in the Italian top-level football opening. The win for the frontrunners was not a surprise by usual inference, but was made surprising after new recruit and former Manchester City player Carlos Tevez was seen as the one who gave the best goals for his new home. Tevez scored the only goal in the match with Sampdoria 1-0, proving that he is a potential breakthrough player for the Italian champions. The Serie A opening win was not the lone occasion Tevez created a display, as he was also one of the esteemed men to send his side to victory after a 4-0 routing of forthcoming opponents, Lazio, in the recently held Italian Super Cup. This marks the first of the two latest occasions the The Old Lady emerged winners, after incurring three successive defeats in the International Champions Cup earlier this month.

An almost-perfect form for Lazio

Lazio overtook Udinese 2-1 in their kick-off campaign for Serie A, after unlocking a second half vengeance to get past the opponents at the Stadio Olimpico. This set the fourth consecutive home win for The Eagles, making them a threat and powerhouse challenge for other teams to overcome. However, last season’s seventh placers are still recovering from a throbbing downfall after losing the Italian Super Cup to Serie A approaching rivals, Juventus. This means that they need to invent better pitch strategies and invest in the stronger players to overcome their challengers.

Victory for…

While Juventus and Lazio both had impressive performances in their individual battles, it seems more likely that The Old Lady would still be able to defend their title. The past two duels that these teams engaged in were both dominated by Juventus, with their latest Super Cup brawlas mentioned—accentuating the home side’s superiority over the away opponents. The tourney will be fierce, but will ultimately land in the hands of Juventus.
