Serie A Match Preview: Torino vs. Catania

UC Sampdoria v Torino FC - Serie A

Match Date: 24 November 2013

Match Venue: Stadio Olimpico

Torino fell two spots lower in the table when week 12 came in (from number 12 down to number 14). The decline was due to the side’s loss from Cagliari, which in itself, was trailed by the two deadlocks the troupe had with Livorno and Roma.

Il Toro’s Serie A journey this season has so far been unexceptional. The squad have only won twice but have already been conquered four times. Majority of their battles resulted in dull stalemates, while the total number of goals they scored only reached slightly over a dozen. Giampiero Ventura struggles to address his men’s dilemma on poor aerial duels, weak support to the lead, and dismal defense for set pieces. They are, however, quite skilled in launching counter attacks and finishing scoring chances.

A recent victory over Udinese provided Catania a break in their almost never-ending, draw-defeat saga. The three points they picked up from this victory, however, were still not enough to help them escape the relegation zone or at the very least, improve one spot higher than their previous position. Thus far, this is Catania’s seventh time in the league’s bottom three.

Winning their last match may have bolstered Catania’s appetite to score another win in the next match. The clean sheet was impressive, but a repeat of the same result can be very challenging. Team boss Luigi De Canio may continue capitalizing on his squad’s ability to steal the ball from the opposition, but he must also not neglect priority on their defense against highly skilled rivals.

Football betting tip: Considering the sides’ general façade in Serie A, this match may end up less spectacular than the majority of the Italian top-tier league’s matches. Regardless, considerable displays must still be expected. Placing wagers between 1.87 and 2.06 for the home side can be worth the risk.
