Serie A Match Preview: Sassuolo vs. Atalanta

Updated: November 14, 2013

Match Date: 24 November 2013

Match Venue: Città del Tricolore

Sassuolo are out of the relegation zone for the first time, thanks to the 3-4 victory they achieved over Sampdoria and the 1-1 draw with Roma. It seems like I Neroverdi are already acclimatizing with the fierceness of the Italian top-tier league, proven more interestingly by the deadlock they held with the league’s current frontrunners.

Eusebio Di Francesco found a much better traction in the tournament, although carelessness by individual talent might open a loophole for their improving form. The draw they had with Roma was partly due to Alessandro Longhi’s own goal. It could have been a sure Roma victory, but Domenico Berardi, who scored a hat trick in the match prior to this, scored an equalizer in the match’s dying minutes and put the fixture in a draw. Therefore, if not for Di Francesco’s mishap, Roma would have tasted their first defeat in the season from an otherwise lowly adversary.

After three consecutive matches of mediocre displays, Atalanta have finally scored a win. The side defeated Bologna at home 2-1 in a battle that saw Marko Livaja stand as the winning side’s saving glory. Brivio opened the scoring in the second half, but was immediately cancelled out by Bologna’s Bianchi a few minutes later. Livaja’s late goal decided the match’s fate, finally ending the combat with a high note from La Dea.

Atalanta’s inconsistency make them prone to yo-yo rankings in the table. They’ve been pulled down in the bottom four once, but have also been able to place within the top 10 a few times.  While they are adept at attacking set pieces, they play rather badly at defending counter attacks.

Online betting tip: This fixture could result in an interesting story. Atalanta, in most measures, are apparently ahead of Sassoulo but the latter’s recent feats are witnesses to the squad’s determination to recover. The visitors may be able to score some goals, but the home could equalize them all aggressively. A draw should be expected in this battle.
