Serie A Match Preview: Juventus vs. Roma

Updated: January 3, 2014

Match Date: 05 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Juventus Stadium

Extending a sixth consecutive week atop the league’s rankings, Juventus are striving to defend their title and are on their way to achieving their 30th Serie A trophy. The squad may have failed to maintain a perfect streak this season, but they remain tremendously successful at home. In fact, their last five home matches in the Italian top-flight tournament were all clean sheets, trouncing equally resolute clubs such as Genoa, Catania, Napoli, Udinese, and Sassuolo.

Antonio Conte’s men are evidently strong in Serie A, but in other competitions, their fate is quite blurry.  They were winners in the joist opposite Avellino for the Coppa Italia, but they were underdogs in the fixture against Galatasaray at the Champions League.

The previous league leaders are now six points short of overtaking the score of the current frontrunners. Roma are undeniably among the strongest clubs in the current season, but they have shown quite disappointing performances in their most recent showings. Of their last seven Serie A matches, Rudi Garcia’s players forced a draw five times, which will qualify them as “underperformers” considering the very strong ensemble that they have. In their latest fixture, however, the team scored a rousing clean sheet from Catania, netting four goals between the 18th and 80th minutes—two of which were delivered by Mehdi Benatia.

Football betting tip: Either Juventus or Roma rightfully deserve to win this fixture, especially that both of them are extremely determined to add another three points in their score board. An exchange of breathtaking displays should be expected, but the thriller can also be equated to a draw.
