Serie A Match Preview: Genoa vs. Sassuolo

Updated: January 3, 2014
Genoa CFC v Atalanta BC - Serie A

Match Date: 06 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Comunale Luigi Ferraris

Despite the recent disasters they had in Serie A, Genoa still managed to remain in the upper half of the table. They were winless in their five most recent matches, scoring only draplasticws three times, and losing points twice. Their fixture with Bologna gave them their worst defeat in seven matches, conceding one goal to their opponents and failing to score to at least cancel out the lead.

Alessandro Diamanti netted the only goal of the game in the 57th minute amid a Genoa side that hardly ever threatened a goal of their own. Genoa had a chance 19 minutes into the first period, but Gyorgy Garics cut out a low cross meant for Moussa Konate.

Sassuolo seem to be coming back from where they started: in the relegation zone. After achieving an unbeaten streak in the 11th to 14th weeks and emerging above the bottom for the first time in the season, the side suffered calamities when they met up with powerhouses Chievo, Juventus, and Fiorentina in their most recent battles. Their loss to Juve 4-0 was their second worst finish this season, only behind their fiasco under the hands of Inter 0-7.

Sassuolo’s defense suffers from a severe difficulty of looking after attacks down the wings and firings from skillful individual opponents. Letting loose of the ball is another problem of the squad, but their strong sense of counter-attacking—not to mention their agile aerial abilities—could save them from tragic embarrassments.

Online betting tip: There could be some opportunities for Sassuolo to create chances, but their capacity to convert will be put to test with Genoa on guard. The home side are positioned to win this joist over the visitors.
