Serie A Match Preview: Fiorentina vs. Internazionale

Updated: February 13, 2014

Match Date: 15 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi

What they have lost earlier this month was immediately recovered from their two most recent battles. Fiorentina were highly successful both in Serie A and the Coppa Italia in the past few days, earning clean sheets from Atalanta 2-0 and Udinese 2-0 respectively. They remain in the top-flight league’s top four and are now up against Napoli for the Coppa Italia championship.

At this stage, Viola’s seeding in the Europa League is already quite certain especially that they are still several points clear of falling out of the secure spots. However, berth in the Champions League might less plausible as the league’s frontrunners Juventus and Roma are performing very strongly with huge points and soaring goal scores. In fact, they are barely seen to lie low until the season’s finals.

Climbing one spot higher than last week, Inter are making their gap with a Europa League placement even much slimmer, though they could have secured stronger standing if they were able to maintain their pace from the start of the season. Consistency is still an issue that Walter Mazzarri must address, but this is slowly being eradicated with the inspiring success—their very first this 2014—they earned from Sassuolo.

Walter Samuel’s header booked Inter Milan a much-needed win at San Siro, despite new signing Hernanes and Diego Milito being denied of a goal on numerous occasions by an improved Sassuolo backline. Nerazzurri’s well-deserved win could serve as inspiration to overcome their impending fixtures.

Football betting tip: This battle will see Fiorentina and Inter, who are currently ranked side by side in the table, go neck-and-neck. Plenty of chances can be created but the steams’ reliable defenses will keep scoring at bay especially on the Inter side. Expect the hosts to dominate this meeting on a very narrow lead.
