Serie A Match Preview: Fiorentina vs. Genoa

Updated: January 22, 2014

Match Date: 26 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi

Fiorentina are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions, with particularly strong showings in the Italian top-flight league. All of their four most recent victories finished in clean sheets, toppling the likes of Bologna, Sassuolo, Livorno, and Catania. Since curtain raiser, the side have consistently shown solid performances. In fact, there was never a week when Viola would fall out of the top six. They are currently positioned at number four, flaunting a record of 12 wins, four draws, and four losses.

Coach Vincenzo Montella’s pitch approach can be daunting to other clubs, especially those in the lower ranks. His troupe have an excellent ball possession power, agile on quick passes, and demonstrate controlled disciplined by keeping their aggressiveness at bay.

Genoa have a serious problem in their form. They have been in the relegation zone once this season (on week 2) and their inconsistency issue could make that happen again. They are currently ranked in the last spot of the top half, having earned 26 points but are still tasked to improve their defense as they are shy of four goals to cancel out their negative goal difference.

I Rossoblu’s past five Serie A matches were strikingly perplexing. They won twice in that streak but they were also defeated on the same number of times. A draw with Atalanta seals the record, which is not even enough to determine whether the team performed well or otherwise in their recent outings.

Online betting tip: Clearly the dominant side in this face-off, Fiorentina could earn all the spoils from Genoa. The latter are devoted to playing in their own half but the former are very notorious at winning via a complete control the match in their opposition’s half.
