Serie A Match Preview: Chievo vs. Lazio

Updated: January 29, 2014

Match Date: 02 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio Marc`Antonio Bentegodi

With just one point narrowly saving them from the drop zone, Chievo’s form should see tremendous improvement in the match weeks to come. They have been winless for seven straight weeks now, which include a goalless disaster in the Coppa Italia (versus Fiorentina 2-0). In Serie A, the side went back to waterloo right after they earned three-way victories in weeks 13, 14, and 15. Their most recent match had them share the points with Napoli, with the squads netting only one goal apiece.

Edoardo Reja’s men cannot completely rely on the strength of their ability to defend set pieces. They have plenty of shortcomings—poor possession of the ball, frequenting in the offside, and individual errors, to name a few—and these require immediate and effective remedies.

Lazio almost did not make it to the top half (10th) if not for the draw they obtained from their fixture at the Stadio Olimpico against frontrunners Juventus. They were impressive in the battle but not as impressive as their visitors. I Biancocelesti scored their goal via penalty which was converted by Antonio Candreva in 27th minute, following an out-of-sorts Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who made a foul against Miroslav Klose. Llorente delivered the equalizer exactly in the hour mark.

Lazio are unbeaten for five consecutive matches, which include a victory at Parma in the Coppa Italia. They have earned a total of 34 goals in the season and are 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Online betting tip: As per records, Lazio have been the dominant side over Chievo. The squads’ past four face-offs rendered the visitors victorious three times and were only defeated by the hosts once. In this tourney, expect Lazio extend their triumph over their rivals.
