Serie A Match Preview: Catania vs. Livorno

Updated: January 29, 2014

Match Date: 02 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio Angelo Massimino

Catania may have failed to break their poor streak with a victory in their latest battle but their unexpected draw with fifth-placed Inter Milan was reassuring enough to seeing daylight in the Italian top-tier football despite their current position in the table’s dark abyss. Thus far, the side only won three times this season and posted a goal difference of -24 which is the least impressive in the overall tally (level with Sassuolo).

Catania’s home matches saw them losing to their opponents only a few times. Of the ten fixtures they hosted this season, only three ended as deficits; all their wins this term were obtained from home (clean sheets) while the rest of their tourneys were draws.

Only two points adrift of the table’s foot but still part of the relegation trio, Livorno are apparently having a very difficult run in the current top-tier season. But to be fair, their streak is not an absolute disappointment. In fact, after nine weeks of very poor displays, the side redeemed themselves and won their battle against equally struggling side Sassuolo. This match on weekend saw Amaranto net three goals, with Leandro Greco opening the scoring and followed briefly by Paulinho and Benassi. Domenico Berardi’s goal for Sassuolo was only to prevent the match from concluding in a clean sheet.

Sports betting tip: While Catania and Livorno are both thrust into the table’s foot, they could still pull off a thriller. Plenty of chances can be created in this meeting, although the final scoring would eventually post a draw.
