Serie A Match Preview: Catania vs. Lazio

Updated: February 13, 2014

Match Date: 16 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio Angelo Massimino

Despite clearly dominating the match and showing stronger maneuvers than Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, Catania remained engrained to the bottom of the Serie A table after sharing the points with their opponents from a goalless draw. Rolando Maran’s men had harvested two points from two draws before meeting up with their rivals in the north and looked well-prepared to claim their very first away win in a very challenging season—only to be frustrated by failing to do so.

Earning total points of 16, Catania are still in dire need of a string of victories for them to escape misery and secure safer places in the league table. They have the second-worst goal difference (-24, just behind Sassuolo who incurred -26) among the top-tier clubs and are currently the least favored by online bookie subscribers.

Lazio have seen themselves improve in their last eight fixtures in all competitions, having won the majority of their campaigns and being beaten only once. Their form gets even better if Serie A would only be the one considered, shipping a sixth consecutive undefeated result after they surprisingly forced a draw with second placers and Eternal derby rivals Roma 0-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on weekend.

Excellent work from Lazio goalkeeper Etrit Berisha enabled his team to deny Roma of earning three points despite creating chances aplenty. This left Biancocelesti with a single point to bring home and retain their position in the top half.

Football betting tip: Manifesting better agility, stronger skills at converting chances and fiercer initiative at defending the lead, Lazio will certainly dominate this match against Catania.
