Fiorentina 1

Match Date: 01 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stadio San Elia

Cagliari stretched their winless streak to six matches after they failed to seize all the spoils in their battle against Milan at the Stadio Sant’Elia on weekend. The hosts held the lead in the 28th minute after Marco Sau opened the scoring. However, Milan’s Mario Balotelli equalized this later on and substitute Giampaolo Pazzini sealed the winner. It was the visitors’ second consecutive league win under the tutelage of new coach Clarence Seedorf. While Milan climbed two places up to the ninth, Cagliari remained at number 14—only four points clear of the drop zone.

Enjoying a strong run without a single defeat from their last nine fixtures in various competitions, Fiorentina are off to a brilliant finish in the current Serie A season. The squad have already romped their way up to the fourth spot (their best position this term, thus far), eight points clear of fifth-placed Inter and only three points behind of Champions League candidates Napoli. As an emerging side, Fiorentina are also introducing ‘new’ players who have the potential to make it big in the future. Aquilani is a good example, who obtained a personal feat when he gave his side the lead for the first time in their brawl against Genoa. The match eventually became a series of equalizers that resulted in a high-scoring stalemate.

Football betting tip: Apparently the better side in this fixture, Fiorentina could thrash Cagliari with a substantial lead. A clean sheet a possible, but the hosts might also earn a consolatory goal.
