Serie A Match Preview: Atalanta vs. Parma

Updated: February 13, 2014

Match Date: 16 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Atleti Azzurri d’Italia

A free-kick and a last-minute goal from Fiorentina made an utter disaster for Atalanta, who were reduced to 10 men after Luca Cigarini lost to a red card late in the second half of the sides’ latest meeting. The mishaps resulted in La Dea not earning a single point, or a single goal for that matter. They could have gone home with at least one inning delivered, except that Giacomo Bonaventura’s shot was effectively saved by Neto from the edge of the area.

The defeat booked Atalanta a dwelling in the league table’s 13th spot, a one-place decline from last week’s standings. Thus far, they have accumulated 27 points from 23 fixtures and obtained goal difference of -8 (24 scored, 32 conceded).

Unbeaten in their last 11 Serie A matches (five finished in victory), Parma are proving to be an increasingly significant threat to other top-flight clubs.  The league’s eighth placers show no mercy when it comes to attacking down the wings, not to mention their fierceness at creating chances via through balls, having a strong hold of the ball, and showcasing topnotch skills in aerial fights. The only things Roberto Donadoni should worry about his men are their volatility at making fouls and the frailness of their defense of the lead. Other than these, they are an excellent pack of talents.

Sports betting tip: While they are six points ahead of Atalanta, Parma cannot fully be confident of securing a win over their hosts.  Of the sides’ past five meetings, each have twice won over the other and drawn once. In this upcoming face-off, expect the troupes pull equal number of goals off.
