Experience and youth as a combination is a paradox, yet it has always been the main formula that led to the triumph of some of Italy’s most successful clubs. Following this fashion, former Seria A champions and online bookie favorites Roma are trying to lure an experienced left-back and a rising young star into their slate to add diversity and improve the side’s efficiency. English veteran Ashley Cole has already sealed a deal with Giallorossi while the 20-year-old American defender DeAndre Yedlin is a major target by the club.

Coach Rudi Garcia—or maybe, club president James Pallotta—loves experimenting with old and new talents. Creating a rich melting pot of players can result in either disaster or victory, but he insists that it is more of the latter. Cole and Yedlin are two players who can push Roma in the right direction and soliciting their service will be a major boost for last season’s runners up.

Cole will bring so much experience to the back line and his tandem with Maicon will be fatally dangerous to their opponents. This set-up will be tested in the Champions League, where they will face Europe’s fiercest sides.

While the signing of Yedlin is not yet final—especially that Roma is in competition with Genoa to get the player—there is a big possibility that the young American will play for Garcia’s side very soon. Yedlin was one of the World Cup’s surprise speedsters and his lightning-speed runs were key to the attention of Italian clubs.

Roma will do their best to tap both experience and youth in their diverse set of players. The side have always been teaching master classes on how to build a very competitive team that is capable of pulling off stunners.
