2014-15 Serie A Recap: Week 2 Matches

Updated: September 18, 2014
Inter week 3

Notable upward and downward movements characterize the second week of fixtures of the Italian top-tier league. Some sides performed very impressively while others dwindled dramatically.

While AC Milan remain the leaders of the rankings, their other rivals are chasing the title rather fast: Juventus moved four places up to secure the second spot, Internazionale went from the 12th spot to the fourth, Sampdoria rose three places higher to bag the fifth slot, Atalanta jumped from the bottom half to the sixth, and Verona clinched the seventh spot after spending the week before in the 14th. However, the most impressive of all ascents was that of Lazio, who successfully barged into the top eight after they debuted in the season in the relegation zone.

If there were those who earned victories, there were also others who incurred defeats. Napoli plummeted from the fourth place to the ninth, Udinese slid from the top three to the mid-table, and Cesena dwindled from the top half to the bottom nine. Empoli, who were in the drop zone during week one, were pulled down further into the foot of the league table.

Sampdoria, Inter, Lazio, Parma, Verona, and Juventus all earned victories at home, with Inter scoring the most goals with seven. Atalanta, Chievo, Milan, and Roma obtained their wins from their outings, with Milan netting the most goals with five to remain the top online betting preference for sports book participants. The battle between Fiorentina and Genoa was the only fixture to conclude in a draw. Among those who lost, Sassuolo suffered the worst result as they scored zero goals while conceding seven. On individual recored, Mauro Icardi emerged as the best player of the week after he netted a hat-trick at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
