The biggest rivalry in Bundesliga meets in an epic match that will determine who will bring home the DFL Supercup silverware. Once again, online betting favorites,  Borussia Dortmund and reigning champion, Bayern Munchen will have a face-off that shall be forever remembered in Bundesliga history.

This is not the first time that the Borussians and Bavarians meet in the said tournament. They awed the crowd last year and are hoping that they could the same again.

Which club is worthy to be named as DFL Supercup king? Will Bayern get its long awaited revenge? Or will Dortmund get another trophy? It is hard to jump into conclusions. For all we know, everything is possible in football.

The contenders

Borussia Dortmund

The Borussians currently hold the Supercup trophy after beating Bayern last year with an astounding score of 4-2. Now they are off to another saga as they try to defend their title.

Dortmund brags a fresh, revived and promising squad that is comprised of its high profiled signings. One of the new faces that will grace Signal Iduna is Ciro Immobile, Serie A’s top scorer last season.  Joining Immobile is Matthias Ginter, who was one of Die Mannschaft’s heroes in the recently concluded World Cup.

Although the match is just another celebrated friendly, this is a great opportunity for Dortmund to test the waters and evaluate how far they can go with the rest of the season.

Bayern Munich

Bayern’s strength and power is under siege. Many of the squad’s players were also part of the German national football team and winning the competition opened new doors for its members to try their luck somewhere else. Two (2) of the widely talked about exits in the Bavarian camp is Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic.

Toni Kroos’ exit is perceived to have a great impact in the squad’s midfield. Despite Pep Guardiola’s attempt to prevent his transfer, Kroos opted to continue his future with the Los Blancos.

On the other hand, a rift against Guardiola forced the striker Mario Mandzukic to settle for Atletico Madrid. Whilst it is true that Bayern has plenty of scoring options with the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben, Xherdan Shaqiri and Franck Ribery, Mandzukic’s performance last season makes him an indispensible member. Reliable and a strong finisher, his clinical moves will be definitely missed.

Possible head turners, injury updates and more

Many look forward to the reunion of former Dortmund stars, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze in Bayern Munchen. Now that they are wearing a different jersey, there is no shame to expect an earth shattering performance from the dynamic duo.

Lewandowski is keen on impressing Guardiola and the whole Bavaria. But Immobile also feels such determination. In a press conference, Immobile acknowledged Lewandowski’s contributions, but stressed that the Polish striker was Dortmund’s past and he is the present.

What the odds say

Bayern is hailed as the match’s heavy favorite, handing over an Asian handicap of 0-0.5 and odds valued at 1.94.
