Bundesliga Team Review: Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund - Matthias Ginter

Borussia Dortmund almost lost the runner-up spot when inconsistency hit them during the last leg of the season’s first half. There was even a time when Bundesliga contenders, Bayer Leverkusen outlasted them in the ranking. Suddenly, all hopes of stealing the spotlight from archrivals, Bayern Munchen were left in tatters.

Dortmund’s performance in the Champions League was also heavily criticized. The squad lost in their first match against Napoli. Such scenario raised question on whether they can still make it to the final, which, apparently, did not materialize.

But despite failing to defend their runner-up tittle in the Champions League, the Borussians were able to shift their focus in the top-flight league and therefore, defend their rank.

Match to remember

To thrash Hamburg SV with six (6) goals is already a big feat, but this cannot be compared to the satisfaction that Dortmund felt when it destroyed the Bavarians with three (3) goals.

Match to forget

Losing to Hamburg SV by three (3) goals and being unable to respond was a humiliating experience considering that they are the match’s favorite and top pick of online betting sites.

The scene-stealers

Robert Lewandowski readily stood out in Dortmund’s ranks. With twenty (20) goals to boot, he will be missed after leaving the club and signing in for the Bavarians.

Latest additions

The acquisition of Serie A’s top scorer, Ciro Immobile is a perfect replacement for Lewandowski. But above anything else, it is the entry of center back, Matthias Ginter, which is expected to give more oomph to Dortmund.

Ginter made it to Germany’s final roster in Brazil. Although he did not play, his inclusion is a clear proof of his world-class caliber.
