Bundesliga Preview: Freiburg have to find rhythm to beat Bayern München

Updated: August 22, 2013

Last season’s fifth placers are inviting defending champions Bayern München to their home court for a new season faceoff on August 28. Freiburg players are beefing up their pitch agilities in a bid to quench their thirst for a long-due triumph over their opponents. But Bayern are unwilling to submit to their rivals, and are instead determined to extend their already long streak of wins over the Christian Streich-managed squad.

Bayern are in their peak

Bayern are arguably in their pinnacle at the moment, with successive wins obtained from their past matches eclipsing their record. There is barely a defeat or draw in their most recent portfolio, as the bulk majority of their battles are near-perfect wins. Pep Guardiola’s men finished their 2012-13 Bundesliga campaign with a victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3 and secured table-topping, overall score of 91 points. They also opened the new season with a satisfactory win over the same opponents 3-1, and followed it up with another success over Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0.

Freiburg are struggling to hold their momentum

While they remain persistent fighters, Freiburg seem to be losing their Bundesliga momentum. Last season’s top five contenders are currently at the brink of relegation (ranked 16th out of 18 clubs). Indeed, it still very early to consider the side to be bottom favorites; but their back-to-back defeats in the new Bundesliga season are apparently not good news to swallow. They were, however, successful during their latest DFB Pokal tourney against Neustrelitz 2-0.

Who will make the better finish?

Of their four latest Bundesliga face-offs, Freiburg have never won over Bayern. They did have a draw three match dates ago but that was the only occasion the former were spared from a downfall. This time around, nevertheless, Bayern are still in the best (and obvious) position to declare supremacy over their nemeses—citing a highly remarkable record and projecting preference from leading online betting contractors.
