Bundesliga Match Preview: Werder Bremen vs. Borussia Monchengladbach

Updated: February 14, 2014
VfL Borussia Moenchengladbach v 1. FSV Mainz 05 - Bundesliga

Match Date: 15 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Weserstadion

Werder Bremen

Failing to at least share the spoils with Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen were put to a dangerous position after they conceded five goals and only scored one in their meeting with the third placers at the Weserstadion on weekend. The side are still three spots away from the drop zone but they have to keep up with their points as they are now only separated by three points with 16th placers Nurnberg.

Die Werderaner have had a disastrous run lately not just in Bundesliga, but in other competitions as well. They are shipping a fifth match without a win, incurring three defeats from their last five matches—including two top-tier fixtures and one club friendly. While Robin Dutt’s lads are good at aerial duels, they fall short in possession, defense of set pieces, avoidance of fouls, and protecting against long shots.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Moenchengladbach were reduced to rubble with a second home defeat in a row (third overall) from Bayer Leverkusen. The upset could further pull back the side to the ground and miss the top five (their current ranking) in the Bundesliga if their momentum fails to go back at the soonest possible time.

Away from home, Die Fohlen have had a few troubles on the road. They were twice beaten in their last five away matches, but twice emerged as champions as well within the same streak. Two of these matches, however, left them without any goal, including a frustrating 0-0 draw with Mainz 05.

Football betting tip: Werder Bremen’s form problems will serve as silver lining to Moenchengladbach’s inconsistent away record. Expect both sides try their best to find the net, but the visitors will eventually earn all three points.
