Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen finished their campaign last season ranking side-by-side in the mid-table. Only two points separated the two, with the former ahead of the final tally.

Hertha Berlin

Berlin’s campaign was marred by an apparent flaw in the defense, which led to them being among the less impressive sides of all major clubs. By the end of the season, they recorded a goal deficit of -8 and produced more defeats than either wins or draws. They triumphed in 11 matches, held in eight, and lost in 15. Inconsistency was their most appalling opponents. Thankfully, they still managed to remain afloat of the relegation zone.

In preparation for the upcoming Bundesliga season, Die Alte Dame competed in club friendlies. Their run was generally productive, although they did make one large mistake. Out of eight pre-season friendlies, they won four times (against Viktoria Berlin 1-2, Rodinghausen 0-2, Karlsruher 0-1, and Salzburg 5-0), forced a draw three times (with Vitesse 0-0, PSV 1-1, and Kasimpasa 1-1), and lost once (to Sevilla 0-2).

Werder Bremen

Die Werderaner fell below the top half of the league table upon the conclusion of their campaign last season. They were very inconsistent throughout the competition and had suffered a painful challenge on their defense. The side were stolen of goals by their opponents 66 times while they only scored 42. They were also beaten in 15 matches, losing 45 points in the process. They, however, managed to remain above the bottom zone by picking up points in 19 fixtures.

In their pre-season friendlies this summer, Werder Bremen scored some of their most promising performances in recent memory. In total, they engaged in 10 friendlies where they won in seven, including a highly impressive trouncing of VfL Oldenburg 1-11 away. They only lost once (to Leicester City 1-0) and shared the points twice (with Pogon Szczecin 1-1 and Athletic Club 2-2).

Online betting tip: Hertha Berlin will earn all three points at the expense of Werder Bremen.
