Bundesliga Match Preview: Hertha Berlin vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Updated: November 15, 2013

Match Date: 23 November 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Olympiastadion

Hertha Berlin

Although they’ve lost their battles against Bayern Munich and Schalke 04, Hertha BSC remained in the league table’s upper half. Thanks to the five victories they earned this season (including their most recent), the squad managed to obtain 18 points to be reputed as one of the better clubs in the German top-tier football this season.

The only problem that hinges in Die Alte Dame’s form is their lack of defensive stability. The team have already conceded seven goals in just three matches (most recent ones) and although they won over Hoffenheim in their latest bout, they failed to prevent their opponents from scoring two innings. Jos Luhukay is much more focused on emphasizing individuals skills and while this is not necessarily a bad thing, he must learn to pay equal attention to defending set pieces.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen are doing an impressive job this season. The side have successfully stayed in the top three since opening day, proving what a swarm of pitch monsters they are in the German top-flight league. Sami Hyypiä should be proud of his lads, but he is still faced with a bomb of challenges to obtain the much-coveted top spot.

Indeed, Leverkusen’s form is very solid, but the fact that they’ve also been defeated twice this season should not be ignored. On both occasions, the squad were left without any goal to boast of. Schalke 04 scored a clean sheet from defeating Hyypiä’s players, and Braunschweig also managed to do the same. Nonetheless, the troupe are prepared for any fierce battle in the subsequent fixtures. They are excellent in the defense, and they will try much harder to improve their already-remarkable attack.

Online betting tip: Leverkusen appear to be the stronger side in this battle. Hertha BSC are rallying for a frantic victory but their opponents’ strong sense of spiritedness will keep Luhukay’s men away from the net. Wagering between 1.87 and 2.06 for the away side could yield positive results.
