Both Frankfurt and Freiburg had difficulty keeping themselves out of the relegation zone. While they eventually managed to secure another season in the top-flight by the end of the tournament, it cannot guarantee them that the next will be easier. There is a big room for improvement, however.

Frankfurt only finished in the 14th spot last season, an eight-place decline from the previous term. The side suffered heavily with a poor defense and although their attack was not bad enough, they inevitably recorded a negative goal difference by the end of the tournament. They scored 36 points in 34 appearances, nine of which were wins, another nine were draws, and the rest were defeats.

Die Adler’s form problems seem to have not yet been fixed based on their pre-season frienlies. They scored even results in four appearances whereby they won twice (against Sandhausen and Inter) but also lost twice (to Waldof Mannheim and Sampdoria).

Like Frankfurt, Freiburg were besieged by an acute problem in their fence. The side performed defensively poor last season, which unavoidably put them below the league table’s top half by the end of the season. In fact, they spent 10 weeks of their entire campaign in the relegation zone and would have left the top-flight had they not made significant improvements in the latter portion of the tournament. Overall, they obtained a W9-D9-L16 record.

Based on their last four friendlies, Breisgau-Brasilianer are preparing hard to avoid embarrassments in the new season. They were unbeaten in all of those matches, although they had to settle on stalemates against Aelen and Stoke City.

Sports betting tip: This battle will render Frankfurt and Freiburg even.
