Match Date: 24 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Borussia-Park

Borussia Monchengladbach

Continuing a campaign for a strong showing in the German top-flight league, Borussia M’gladbach managed to keep themselves unbeaten in their last eight Bundesliga matches. Only two of these fixtures went level with their opponents, while the rest finished with flying colors. The side are similarly successful in other competitions, having won friendly matches against Hertha BSC, St. Gallen, and Bochum. They opened the year with a draw with Beşiktaş.

Die Fohlen almost scored a perfect home record when they met with Wolfsburg, except that they did not. The result was a draw. Diego opened the scoring for the visitors in the second half, but goals from Raffael and Juan Arango turned things around to put Lucien Favre’s lads on course for another home win. However, Wolfsburg’s Dost struck in the match’s dying minutes to deny a Gladbach victory. But despite the slight failure, the squad are still in the top three.

Bayern Munich

The undisputed leaders are still very keen at defending their title. Bayern Munich have managed to keep a clean record this season, having been winning almost every fixture they were into. Thus far, Der FCB have already mustered 14 victories in 16 matches; the remainders were draws. The troupe are currently seven points clear of their nearest rivals, Bayer Leverkusen.

The side’s most recent Bundesliga match gave them their 14th win this term, earning three goals from Hamburg. Mario Mandzukic gave Pep Guardiola’s men the lead just before half-time and Mario Gotze doubled it just after. Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga opened the scoring for his team in the 87th minute but this was later canceled out by Xherdan Shaqiri’s goal on extra time. In addition, Bayern were announced the overall champions in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Football betting tip: This face-off will be characterized by strong attacking maneuvers from both Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich. Both sides are capable of earning the silverware, but Bayern’s superior capacity to finish scoring chances could make them this battle’s eventual winners.
