Bundesliga Match Preview: Bayer Leverkusen vs. Schalke 04

Updated: February 14, 2014

Match Date: 15 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: BayArena

Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen’s pursuit to bag the championship seemed more plausible as they swept away all the points from their most recent battle in Bundesliga, earning a clean sheet from the equally powerful Borussia Moenchengladbach side. Heung-Min Son’s goal midway through the second half was enough for Leverkusen to move to within 13 points of Bayern Munchen, the defending champions and the current league leaders.

Carelessness in dangerous areas and slow pace at defending against long shots are the two of the weakest traits of Sami Hyypiä’s men, but these are largely overshadowed by their very sharp faculties in counter attacking, creating chances, managing through balls, and in aerial duels.

Schalke 04

Schalke 04 booked another Bundesliga victory for 2014 after they inflicted misery to Hannover with a clean sheet at the Arena AufSchalke. Jefferson Farfan and Max Meyer netted goals in the first half and those eventually seemed enough to earn Die Königsblauen all three points and give them a four-point advantage over Borussia Monchengladbach in the race for fourth.

Jens Keller’s men’s away records are not necessarily clean and perfect, but they are impressive enough to hope for a victory in their next fight on the road. Of the 10 away fixtures they had this season, Schalke shipped four victories, three draws, and three losses. Their strong ability to finish chances would be their key to secure a sixth away success this season.

Sports betting tip: Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04 could definitely make their brawl a fiery one. Both sides will be able to make chances, convert them into goals, and ultimately, share the spoils.
