Paderborn recap

The second week of Bundesliga fixtures culminated with some drastic changes in the league rankings. Bayer Leverkusen remain at the top of the race with two consecutive wins they obtained from their battles. Also remaining in their week-one position are Werder Bremen who are marooned at number nine. The likes of Paderborn, Borussia Dortmund, and Cologne enjoyed massive upward movements while Hertha Berlin and Mainz 05 incurred unwanted results.

The biggest winners of the past week were Leverkusen who picked up three points and four goals against Berlin. This made them the only side in the season to produce six points from only two matches. Other successful clubs were Dortmund and Paderborn who scored 2-3 away and 0-3 away, respectively.

Majority of the matches resulted in stalemates. Of the 9 fixtures, five provided more than half of the participants with one point. Wolfsburg forced a draw with Frankfurt, Bremen with Hoffenheim, Schalke with Bayern, Mainz 05 with Hannover 96, and Freiburg with Monchengladbach. Of these draws, the Wolves and the Eagles produced the most number of goals with four.

Current standings place Leverkusen, as mentioned, at the summit of the league table followed by Paderborn and Hoffenheim. In the middle of the list are Dortmund, Bremen, and Mainz 05, while at the bottom are Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Augsburg. Last season’s defending champions, Bayern Munich, are positioned in the fifth spot after only gaining four points in two Bundesliga appearances.
