Schalke 04 made it six weeks (pre-season friendlies included) straight without making a substantial success against their rivals after they debuted in the new Bundesliga season with a defeat from Hannover 96 2-1. Only Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored for Die Königsblauen, while Hannover had Edgar Prib and Joselu to place a double and ultimately dominate over their opponents. This inevitably caused Schalke to rank low in the league table, having only reached the 14th spot. Munich, on the other hand, have proven once more that they are still capable of defending their title as they thrashed Wolfsburg with goals from Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben and easily claimed a spot in the top four. Der FCB showed supreme creativity, counter attacking skills, and aerial capabilities.

Football betting tip: Bayern Munich could trounce Schalke 04 in a clean sheet.

Freiburg vs. Borussia M’gladbach

Match Date: 31 August 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Mage Solar Stadion

Freiburg’s pleasant pre-season performances did not translate well into their new campaign for the German top-flight football as they failed to make an early spectacle following a 1-0 away defeat to Frankfurt in their first fixture of the new season. The defense—especially on set pieces—was generally okay but Roman Burki’s failure to save Haris Seferovic’s goal in the 15th minute proved lethal of Breisgau-Brasilianer’s opening form. The attack was more lackluster and their opponents winning in a clean sheet is enough to serve as testament to their weakness in this particular field. Borussia Monchengladbach, meanwhile, held Stuttgart in a 1-1 draw to earn just one point from their debut in the new season. Christoph Kramer’s late equalizer to Stuttgart’s Maxim Alexandru’s second-half opener proved crucial to the meeting’s outcome. Set up by Alvaro Dominguez, the stunning goal prevented Die Fohlen from making an early upset. They currently rank just outside the league table’s top half.

Online betting tip: Borussia Monchengladbach will seize all the glory from this face-off against Freiburg.

Mainz remain winless in three matches from all competitions after they opened their Bundesliga new season campaign with only a draw with newly promoted side Paderborn 2-2. Prior to that, they were beaten by both Asteras Tripolis 3-1 and Chemnitzer FC 5-5 (on penalties) in the Europa League and DFB Pokal, respectively. Their league result, however, was not appalling enough to bury them in the table’s rock bottom. They are currently positioned within the top 10, level on points and goal difference with three other squads. Hannover 96, by comparison, have so far been very successful in their last four matches, including their season opener. The squad hosted a fruitful battle against Schalke 04, which was preceded by another win against Astoria Walldorf in the German top-tier knockout football cup and back-to-back triumphs from Lazio and Al Ahli in club friendlies. As of first league week, Die Roten are ranked in the top four.

Sports betting tip: This meeting between Mainz 05 and Hannover 96 will be capped by a draw.
