Lille may not have been able to top the rankings in any of the match weeks last season, but they were clearly one of the most consistent sides throughout the competition. The perennial regulars in sports betting sites, Les Dogues finished the season as the third most prolific team in Ligue 1, just behind Monaco and eventual champions PSG.

Lille kicked off their campaign with a clean sheet victory against Lorient 1-0, giving them a well-deserved place in the top seven. A disheartening 2-1 loss in their second fixture against Reims pulled them two spots lower in the league table, putting them near the margins of the top half. A victory over Saint-Etienne and a draw with Rennes rounded up their first four weeks in the tourney before they incurred their second defeat of the season from Nice 0-2 which caused them to plummet below the top 10.

Since 21 September 2013, however, the side started gaining stronger traction in Ligue 1. Eighteen non-consecutive wins were soon obtained by the club and they have eventually risen from the waterloo up to the second spot on a few occasions. Their best wins came on weeks seven and nine when they trounced Evian and Ajaccio on three-goal clean sheets, respectively.

Rene Gerard’s side had four new signings during the season’s transfer windows, the most notable being SimonKjær from Wolfsburg. Eight more players also returned from their loan spells from other clubs. The headcount included midfielder Pape Souare, forward John Jairo Ruiz, and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. Veteran member Solomon Kalou emerged as Lille’s top scorer of the season with 16 league goals netted, ranking him second (tied with four others) overall in Ligue 1 behind PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In other competitions, Lille secured a quarter-final finish in the Coupe de France (where Kalou and Tulio de Melo each scored a brace) and reached the Third Round in the Coupe de la Ligue.
