The last season of the French Ligue 1 brought football fans and online bookies alike to their feet with excellent performances from almost every club. However, not all sides delivered. Some were a little shaky on the pitch while others completely lost motivation to a dwindling table ranking. This upcoming season, the teams are bulking up to ensure more outstanding shows than the last term. With some of the players fresh from a quarter-final victory in the World Cup, expect France’s top-tier league to be another explosive display of quality football. Here are some of the latest developments in the league:

  • Marseille are not exactly looking for new players to boost their ensemble, but they do find ways to bring back their old but still excellent talents to the slate. Top brass Marcelo Bielsa would be welcoming returning loan players who have impressed while away. Morgan Amalfitano is back from West Bromwich Albion and Jordan Ayew from Sochaux.
  • Bastia might be next season’s top contenders with the legendary Claude Makelele now the man at the helm. His arrival, however, was juxtaposed by the departures of both Julien Sable and Mickael Landreau, whose contracts are about to expire.
  • Newly promoted Caen are attempting to strengthen their squad and maintain Ligue 1 status by inviting Remy Vercoutre to joined the club from Lyon.
  • Guingamp will make sure that the upcoming season will be theirs. They have already acquired Danish striker Ronnie Schwartz, as well as Lars Jacobsen, Maxime Baca, and Jonas Lossl.
  • In an attempt to replicate their rousing performances in 2012, Montpellier have made moves for both Berigaud and Paul Lasne—both coming from Ajaccio.
  • Laurent Blanc has signed former Chelsea defender David Luiz for a record-breaking £50m. However, PSG have had to let defender Alex leave for AC Milan, with the Italians also agreeing a deal to take French midfielder Jeremy Menez out of Parisians’ squad.
