Recap

Marseille was a certified blunder last season. Falling into the 6th spot was readily unexpected from a squad which finished as runner-up during the 2012/2013 season. Indeed, the performance was way beyond one’s comprehension.

During the 2013/2014 season, Marseille was among the clubs admired for their transfer acumen. It acquired the signature of renowned players such as Payet, Imbula, Khalifa and almost went to trouble when U-21 stunner, Florian Thauvin.

But amidst the celebrated transfer strategy, it seemed that Marseille was unprepared for AS Monaco’s surprises and massive improvements from rival clubs such as Lille, Saint Etienne and Lyon.

Rubbing more salt to Marseille’s wounded form was their dismal Champions League performance. Back in the European competition, the squad was unable to snatch a single victory, not even a draw. They exited the tournament after experiencing a massive losing streak.

Match to remember

The last leg of the previous season brought good news to the squad. With a few weeks remaining, Marseille accomplished an 8-match undefeated streak. The downside of the said streak, however, was most of the matches ended in an even steven finish.

Match to forget

Bowing down to the online betting favorite, Paris Saint Germain in their own territory was a frustrating scenario for Marseille. Adding more insult was their inability to protect their lead, thus, allowing Maxwell and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to steal the show.

The scene-stealers
