Ligue 1 Team Review: Evian Thonon Gaillard

Updated: July 23, 2014
Nicki Bille- Evian

A little improvement can be observed from Evian’s performance last season. They clinched the 14th spot and several notches away from the relegation zone. Although they remained at the bottom part of the table, the said finis remains better than what they did during the 2012/ 2013 season where they stumbled into the 16th spot of France’s top-flight league.

One of the evident reasons behind the squad’s decline was its poor away form. The club struggle in matches held outside its territory. Unable to contain the pressure, Evian experienced a series of unfortunate event that almost signaled their early relegation.

But while the club struggled in their away encounters, its strong display at home salvaged them from total humiliation.

However, no matter how impressive they were at home, it was not enough to propel their rank into the table’s top 10.

Match to remember

Evian literally takes the minnow’s role when pitted against Ligue 1’s powerhouses and sports gambling’s top picks such as Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and AS Monaco. But then again, the underdog proved that they are not mere push-overs as they have managed to inflict a heart-breaking defeat to the (2) clubs.

Match to forget

So far, their biggest loss last season was the thrashing experienced in Lorient’s hands. The latter impressed with four (4) goals whilst keeping a clean sheet against Evian.

The scene-stealers

Kévin Berigaud was a total standout in the club. Berigaud scored ten (10) goals and at the same time, delivered three (3) crucial assists. Sadly, Berigaud will leave Evian’s camp and is off to pursue his career at Montpellier.

Latest additions

Evian secures the signature of the 26-year-old Nicki Bille Nielsen. A full-fledged striker, his presence will bring Evian the much needed oomph in its scoring department.
