Updated: August 11, 2014

Match Date: 15 August 2014 (local time)

Venue:  Stade Michel d’Ornano, Caen

Caen surprised France’s top-flight league when it secured its first win in the season against Evian Thonon Gaillard. The newly-promoted squad showed that it is far from being a mere push-over.

On the other hand, sports betting favorite, Lille had to settle for an even steven finish when Ligue 2 champion. Metz, denied them to convert every scoring opportunity that came along their way.

The contenders

SM Caen

After a bitter relegation in 2012, Caen took the first step in ensuring that it shall not suffer the same fate again. A rampaging Lenny Nangis identified the squad first scoring opportunity twelve (12) minutes after the match has transpired. Delivering a cross to the open N’Golo Kante, the duo gave the squad its early lead.

Caen, however, was dissatisfied with its meager lead. Mathieu Duhamel stepped up to the occasion. Delivering a brace several minutes before the half-time assured Caen’s first victory in France’s top-flight league.

LOSC Lille

Lille had a slow start, much to the disappointment of its supporters. Pegged as the match’s top-pick and a title contender, it is frustrating to see the club’s difficulty in scoring.

Indeed, Metz passion and determination to stay in Ligue 1, readily emerged during the match.

Possible head turners

Expect Nangis to be a prominent figure in Caen’s match against Lille. Duhamel, who has been dominating the air may also feature. But he (Duhamel) has to be strong enough to challenge Lille’s  Marko Basa and Simon Kjaer, who, like him are determined to be the king  of air duels.

What the odds say

Lille is the evident favorite in the match and is valued to win at 2.35, while sharing a 0.5 handicap. The encounter serves as a challenge for the host, which has to prove that its massive win over Evian has nothing to do with sheer luck.
