Ligue 1 Preview: Nice to obtain home win against Montpellier

OGC Nice and Montpellier HSC have already played in three matches for Ligue 1, with their goals distributed in all the three possible results: win, draw, and defeat. This September 1, the sides will reunite for a fourth appearance in the tournament with both of them hoping to add silver lining in their otherwise confusing streaks. The match will be held at Stade Municipal du Ray, Nice’s home ground.

Olympique Lyonnais were the first team to give Nice a taste of defeat in the new season of French top-tier football. Lyon zoomed into an early lead in the League table following a substantial 4-0 victory over Les Aiglons. Alexandre Lacazette netted the only goal of the first half, but the second period saw the home side amassing the three remaining points. Nice, however, made an excellent comeback in their second stint, winning over Rennes 2-1 and pacifying coach Claude Puel’s dread of an awful campaign start. The side sealed their third appearance with a draw with Ajaccio 0-0.

Montpellier were held to a 1-1 draw with PSG on their debut match for the season. As if the bland start was not yet disappointing, the side curbed their record after newly promoted Monaco thrashed them 1-4 in their battle at the Stade Louis II. But for their third expedition in the tournament, La Paillade were able to redeem themselves. The side slammed Sochaux 2-1 in a tourney that saw Siaka Tiene score a winning goal four minutes into injury time. The win marked Montpellier’s first clear success in the season, so far.

With their League forms roughly running on the same track, it is quite baffling (for both supporters and online betting experts) to determine which side between Nice and Montpellier will run away the torch. There is a very slim chance that one of them will emerge more successful than the other as both teams are pinned to a 57.89 percent chance of winning (home advantage does not play key role this time). The match will most probably bulldoze a draw 2-2.
