Valenciennes

Bastia (I Turchini) do not seem to have already recovered from their defeat from newly promoted Nantes in the season opening, having appealed their loss on the grounds that their opponents fielded an ineligible player, Abdoulaye Toure. But the show must go on and the side should not get stuck in just one dramatic match. Esteemed Valenciennes (Les Athéniens) are on the way to confront them, which is a more serious competition they need to focus more on. The duel will take place this August 18 at the Stade Armand Césari (Bastia’s home court).

Valenciennes, like Bastia, were in the middle of the table last season with the former just ahead of one spot. As per Ligue 1 2013-14 season opening, Les Athéniens have made a magnificent jump in the rankings, sitting at the second spot and further widening their margin with I Turchini, which are currently—and dangerously—placed at number 17.

With their most recent matches, the two sides are showing contrasting forms. Valenciennes are having a good run so far, with two victories (against Panathinaikos 4-0 and Toulouse 3-0) and three draws (with Zulte-Waregem 1-1, Caen 2-2, and Peims 0-0) hugging their record. Bastia, on the other hand, are being summoned with an unappealing streak. Of the five most recent tourneys they played in, only two are of substantial importance: a win over Evian TG 2-0 and a draw with Getafe 0-0. The rest are disheartening defeats, with CA Bastia, Mainz 05, and of course, Nantes, all imposing their dominance over the Frédéric Hantz-managed side.

This upcoming match between Bastia and Valenciennes is convincing analysts and sports betting sites to unveil one clear victor: the latter. Valenciennes are ahead of their opponents both in the Ligue 1 rankings and their individual match portfolio. If Bastia will not beef up their faculties, their opponents will totally knock them out to ashes.
