It was a breathtaking battle that happened between Montpellier and Marseille, but the latter ultimately proved that they have the upper hand. Dimitri Payet’s late rally was decisive of the match’s outcome, which was the needed goal to break the 2-2 deadlock that the sides shared in the first 79 minutes of the encounter. The victory is the club’s 14th for this season, and will serve as yet another addition to their hopes of a Europa League berth.

Lille are also rejoicing over a recent win (or wins) they achieved in Ligue 1. The side are unbeaten for three straight weeks, having earned triumphs over Guingamp, Toulouse, and Valenciennes. With an outstanding bulwark against their opponents’ attacks, Les Dogues would remain one of the clubs with the best potential to earn more clean sheets toward the season’s finale. They are also keeping the pressure on fellow favorites Monaco.

Football betting tip: Marseille and Lille are on course to a thrilling battle, which would likely render the sides level.

Bordeaux vs. Guingamp

Match Date: 20 April 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas

If not for Mehdi Mostefa’s late equalizer, Bordeaux would have ensured Ajaccio’s exit in the French top-tier league. However, the struggling Consicans really tried hard to halt the relegation possibility and drew with Les Girondins 1-1. The stalemate therefore means that Francis Gillot’s men would need a few more wins for them to go back in the top five.

Guingamp suffer a major loophole in their defense. They have been beaten 16 times (including in their last three fixtures) this season and are challenged to turn around a six-goal deficit. Three clubs above them actually have more serious problem on goal difference, but Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men’s relative weakness in the attack has pulled them strongly into the edges of the danger zone.

Sports betting tip: Bordeaux will end this battle victorious.
