There is no better way to aim for a victory than expecting from a fellow struggling squad. Valenciennes and Ajaccio are both drowning in the relegation bottom and they will have each other to serve as their hope to add three points on their respective streak. Both sides have poor possession, often commit errors, fail to protect their leads, and unable to defend set pieces.

However, Valenciennes seems to be the better team between the two as they have quite a considerable knack for counter-attacking, not to mention they were actually triumphant in their last two Ligue 1 matches. Les Athéniens reigned supreme over Rennes and Evian TG who they slammed with a 2-1 finish and a clean sheet, respectively. L’ours, in contrast, have not been given the opportunity to earn all the necessary spoils from their five most recent attempts.

Football betting tip: This match has a good chance of displaying a thriller, but the hosts will ultimately get the upper hand.

St. Etienne vs. Sochaux

Match Date: 23 March 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Geoffrey-Guichard

Saint-Etienne incurred back-to-back defeats from their past two fixtures, first from Lorient and the other from league leaders PSG. What made the defeats even sadder is that both rendered Les Verts goalless. The deficits may have hindered the side from ascending in the table but at least they were still able to defend their fourth-spot standing. They are only three points clear of fifth placers (and Europa League chasers) Lyon and are 22 points away from the top spot.

Sochaux generally suffer from inconsistency, but their most recent showings under Hervé Renard were relatively impressive. Their latest result, a clean sheet success from Lorient 2-0, helped them sit adrift of the table’s foot by 10 points. They are still candidates for relegation―owing to a lengthy set of disappointments they manifested at the tournament’s earlier fixtures―but with a W3-D1-L1 record from their five most recent matches, there is definitely hope for Les Lionceaux to escape from the drop zone.

Sports betting tip: Sochaux’s strong perseverance to fight for their Ligue 1 life will help them share the points with league powerhouse St. Etienne on this battle.
