Ligue 1 Match Preview: Valenciennes vs. Lille

Updated: November 27, 2013

Match Date: 30 November 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Stade du Hainaut

Compared to how they fared in the competition during the earlier parts of the season, Valenciennes have already improved, albeit moderately. They still lack results that provide three points, but the victory and four draws they bagged in their last six matches were enough to shed light from the seven consecutive downfalls they incurred from weeks two to eight. However, they are still among those who constitute the relegation trinity.

Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, Brou Angoua, Mathieu Dossevi, and particularly Gregory Pujol are stepping up their game. They were the ones responsible in Les Athéniens’ recent successes in finding the net, and the very reason of the side’s slight form improvement. Nonetheless, Valenciennes still need tremendous efforts to keep up with the tournament’s pace and secure better positions in the table.

Perhaps, their success story is among the most intriguing this season. Lille have effectively fetched themselves out of the league’s lower half after displaying landslide successes in their most recent joists. Currently placed at number two, Les Dogues grew to become a major threat to Monaco and increasingly, a dangerous adversary to the league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.

For nine consecutive weeks, Lille have stayed unbeaten. The ridiculously strong defense and a reliable attacking mechanism made it possible for the René Girard-led troupe to earn all their recent victories in a clean sheet. Only two of their last nine fixtures resulted in a draw (both 0-0).

Online betting tip: Obviously, Lille are the favorites to win in this combat. The massive defense, coupled by the potential attacks from Pape Souare and Nolan Roux, are enough to overwhelm Valenciennes. A wager between 1.84 and 2.08 is insurance to reasonable profits.
