Updated: December 18, 2013

Match Date: 21 December 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Geoffroy-Guichard

Since curtain raiser, Saint-Etienne have never fallen out of the league’s top half. They are currently positioned at number seven, but they actually soared to number two on week five. However, with the draws and defeats they incurred between weeks 6 and 13, the side have moderately plummeted in the charts. The clean sheets they obtained in three of their four most recent matches nonetheless provided them enough points to keep a hold of the table’s safer zone.

They may have succumbed to their opponents twice in their home matches this season, but Saint-Etienne still play so much better in their own territory rather than on the road. More than half of the squad’s total earnings this season were obtained from their home tourneys, including 16 out of 25 goals they scored from all fixtures.

Nantes slid in the table by one notch, from number four last week to number five this week. The blame rightfully goes to their defeat from Toulouse, which saw them finding the net only once while conceding two goals for their opponents. At the back of this downfall, however, are two sky-high victories that they scored from Valenciennes 0-1 and Marseille 2-1. By overall score, Nantes have already amassed 29 points from nine victories and two draws.

Nantes have no problems with injury and the troupe’s best scorer remains to be in tip-top shape. Michel Der Zakarian will continue gambling his high hopes on Filip Djordjevic, but he will also place substantial trust on other equally stunning players like Djilobodji, Bedoya, and Aristeguieta.

Online betting tip: Saint-Etienne and Nantes are almost on the same wavelength. Both squads are aggressive fighters, and holding each other in a draw by the end of the battle should not come as a surprise. However, with five players sidelined, Saint-Etienne will have a hard time fulfilling this result. Hence, Nantes could take the lead on this one and thrash the hosts on at least a one-goal lead.
