Ligue 1 Match Preview: Saint Etienne vs. Reims

Updated: November 27, 2013

Match Date: 30 November 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Geoffrey-Guichard

Saint Etienne

At home, Saint Etienne are actually quite strong, having been defeated only twice in the seven home fixtures they engaged in. Together with their achievements on the road, the side have already accumulated 21 points to rank them within the top six. In addition, Les Verts have scored 19 goals from 12 matches.

The last combat that Christophe Galtier’s men battled out in finished in a riveting clean sheet against Nice. However, there were no longer Saint Etienne fans to produce loud cheers at the time as they have been removed from the stadium following a violent riot with Nice’s supporters during the pre-game. A goal by Mevlut Erding midway through the first half proved enough for Saint-Etienne to triumph 1-0 on the Côte d’Azur, the result helping the squad get back on track after the assault they suffered from their recent derby with Lyon.

In their latest fixture, Reims were stunned by a hefty 0-3 defeat from table leaders, PSG. This marks the Remois squad’s third defeat this season. PSG, who suffered their last league defeat at Reims last season when they lost 1-0 at the Stade Auguste Delaune, obtained a bucket of revenge in a skillful, professional performance away from home.

Reims have the proficiency for defeating superpowers in Ligue 1, but their bout with PSG was an exception. Thus far, the side have already collected 19 points all season to place them in the ninth spot. Their current record stands at W4-D7-L3.

Football betting tip: Both of the sides have excellent attacks, although specific areas in this discipline vary between them. Saint Etienne are mainly good at aerial duels and creating chances, while Reims are very efficient at counter attacks. In this fixture, a medium-scoring draw should be expected.
