Ligue 1 Match Preview: Nice vs. Nantes

Updated: February 11, 2014

Match Date: 15 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Allianz Riviera

Despite earning a goal, Nice went home with zero points after they were assaulted by Valenciennes at the Stade du Hainaut on weekend 2-1. Tongo Doumbia had put the hosts on the lead after 26 minutes but it seemed they would have to share the spoils after Nice’s Neal Maupay leveled in the 75th minute. However, Majeed’s late goal decided the esteem-boosting result and gave Valenciennes only their fourth win of the season.

Nice recent defeat was quite unexpected, but it was nevertheless not much of a worry as they remain nine points clear of the drop zone. Thus far, they have already won in nine fixtures, of which eight were obtained at home.

Nantes’ last four matches have awarded them with no merits, securing only one point from one draw and zero points from three losses. Three of these fixtures finished with no goals bagged (including the 0-0 stalemate with Reims). These deficits have put Les Canaris coach Michel Der Zakarian on deep pressure, though his side are still nine spots adrift of the relegation zone.

Nantes currently have the same number of goals scored and conceded, making them very volatile to an inhospitable goal difference. From their latest match alone, they were stolen of two goals. Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Bafetimbi Gomis scored one goal apiece to put Nantes as the underdogs, despite Filip Djordjevic pulling off a consolation in the match’s dying minutes.

Sports betting tip: Nice are at a home advantage while Nantes remain inconsistent on the road. Netting goals is plausible for both sides, but the hosts will ultimately bring home the bacon.
