Ligue 1 Match Preview: Marseille vs. Valenciennes

Updated: January 14, 2014

Match Date: 18 January 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Vélodrome

Earning back-to-back victories in Coupe de France and Ligue 1, Marseille have enough confidence to keep their colors flying in their next battles. They have been undefeated for five consecutive matches (in all competitions) and are likely to extend that streak with a scoring appetite bolstered by their recent successes. Andre Ayew might have been sidelined, but the troupe are still keen at firing powerful bullets through key players like Andre-Pierre Gignac, Florian Thauvin, and Dimitri Payet.

In the French top-flight tournament, Les Phocéens jumped one spot higher than their position from last week. They are now at number five, with 32 points to keep and 29 goals scored to vaunt.

As if their inclusion in the relegation zone was not yet enough, Valenciennes made their status in the French top-tier league even more on the rocks with a handful of players sidelined. Le Tellac, N’Guette, Traore, Bahebeck, and Rose are all unable to confirm their attendance in their clubs’ subsequent fixtures. However, Ariël Jacobs seem to not be alarmed of this ‘tiny’ plight as he is confident that his men will do just as good without the aforesaid players. The coach is carrying heavy pressure on his shoulder, not because he is at the verge of letting his side go further down into the bottom, but due to the impact his players created when they defeated Monaco and Bastia in their last two Ligue 1 matches, respectively. To add another victory is possibkle, but that could be dangerously difficult.

Football betting tip: Eager to follow up their spectacular streak with another win, Marseille will employ their best tactics to trounce Valenciennes. Expect this match to end with both sides able to find the net, but the home side will ultimately grab the lead.
