Marseille and Nice currently rank side by side in the league table, with both of them having scored four points from one win, one draw, and one loss. They also have the same number of goals scored and conceded, thus making them practically equal as of Ligue 1’s third week of fixtures.

Olympique de Marseille

Marseille’s brawl against Guingamp has finally given them their first victory of the season, thanks to Andre-Pierre Gignac’s successful effort in the 46th minute. This follows the two-match winless results that Les Phocéens displayed in the first two weeks of Ligue 1, when they forced a draw with Bastia 3-3 and then succumbed to Montpellier 0-2. Marcelo Bielsa has to find better ways to tone down his team’s inconsistency and he should pick a full squad when they face Nice in order to make a second straight win. Mario Lemina has just recuperated from his injury and is likely to return to the pitch in his side’s fourth league appearance.

OGC Nice

Based on three matches, Nice are following a downward trend. They debuted in the season with a rousing victory against Toulouse 3-2 which eventually placed them in the top four of the league rankings for that particular week. A goalless draw with Lorient in their second battle prevented them from making an upward movement, although it did keep them in the fourth place. In their most recent battle, however, they slid five spots in the rankings after submitting to Bordeaux with a final match result of 1-3 at home. Alexy Bosetti impressed early and put Los Aiglons in the lead just after 11 minutes into the meeting, but strong retaliations from the Girondins—particularly those from Diabate, Maurice-Belay, and Sertic—hampered Claude Puel’s men from bagging the silverware.
