Ligue 1 Match Preview: Lyon vs. Valenciennes

Updated: November 18, 2013

Match Date: 23 November 2013

Match Venue: Stade de Gerland

Lyon’s two most recent rallies gave them sufficient points to lift their spot in the league table. The former leaders (weeks one and two) have trembled in ghastly defeats midway through week 14. Les Gones lost control of their matches and were easily battered by the likes of Montpellier and Monaco. But with new signs of recovery emanating from their latest combats, there is a growing chance for the side to go back where they started and kick off a riveting journey anew.

As usual, Alex Lacazette was on his best physique to deliver his team to victory. The player scored in both of the side’s last two matches. He is one of coach Rémi Garde’s best kept assets and will likely to serve as one following a consistently important role in the squad’s performance. Other players also notable for their keenness in the pitch include Yoann Gourcuff, Clement Grenier, and Jimmy Briand.

Only finding dull opportunities to earn three points, Valenciennes have remained in the relegation zone for several weeks now. Les Atheniens only won twice this season, forced three draws, and suffered defeats for the rest of their league crusade.

Their recent (particularly the last two) battles are giving slight silver lining for Ariël Jacobs’ troupe. While it is true that they have already conceded 20 goals to their opponents, Valenciennes managed to pick up four points in their bouts against Ajaccio and Montpellier. The recovery is still at its infancy, but at least the side have already something to hold on to.

Football betting tip: Based on their overall improvement, ability to unleash attacks, and their capacity to protect their defense, Lyon will dominate this fixture. Betting between 1.82 and 2.11 for the home side could give punters a run for their money.
