Lyon

Lyon’s past 15-match streak in all competitions would have been a pleasant scenery if not for the sole defeat they incurred from Rennes in the French top-tier league. The side were generally very successful at every tournament they engaged in for their last 15 fixtures, including the Europa League, Coupe de la Ligue, and Coupe de France. In the top-flight domestic competition, Les Gones soar at number six, just four points away from securing berth in the Europa League qualifying. They twice topped the table, which means that they are still capable to claiming the championship.

Lyon lead the league when it comes to creating chances through individual skill and shooting from direct free kicks. They boast of outstanding players such as Alexandre Lacazette and Bafetimbi Gomis who have transcendent aptitude at firing scores. What the squad need right now is a further improvement in their defense, especially on the lead, on counter attacks, against through ball assaults.

Ajaccio

Relegation candidates Ajaccio made it three matches unbeaten as they claimed their first league win since September (or their first overall win since their Coupe de France brawl with Quimperle in January) with a 3-1 conquest at Rennes at the Stade François Coty on weekend. The strugglers remain nine points from safety but strikes from Ricardo Faty, Benjamin Andre, and Johan Cavalli raised their hopes of an unlikely escape from the drop zone.

Overall measures put Ajaccio in a dangerous position. They barely show any specific strength in the pitch, but have well-defined weaknesses such as poor skills at avoiding the offside, frail defense of set pieces, and the inability to keep a good grip of the ball. In addition, the side currently have three players sidelined: Pedretti, Zubar, and Bonnart.

Sports betting tip: Ajaccio could extend their unbeaten run if their next opponents would come from the mid-table or lower. However, they are up against powerhouse Lyon, which means that they will have to face tough challenge at finding the net or creating chances at the very least. Expect this tourney to conclude with the hosts in the driver’s seat.
