Ligue 1 Match Preview: Lorient vs. Toulouse

Updated: February 11, 2014

Match Date: 15 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade du Moustoir

Lorient’s face-off with Bordeaux had to be postponed due to the hostile weather in the venue, and have instead placed their attention to prepping to meet with their next Ligue 1 opponents.

At home, Les Merlus are very strong, winning the majority of their matches and losing only in one fixture.  Many of their victories resulted in stunning clean sheets, which include successes over Velenciennes 1-0, Nice 3-0, Rennes 2-0, and Guingamp 2-0. Overall scores provide the side 32 points to place them in the table’s top half.

Christian Gourcuff’s club have always been a springboard for several internationals, hosting key foreign players like Bruno Manga, Sadio Diallo, Vincent Aboubakar, and Alain Traore. With these giants, along with local linchpins, Lorient could hope for a comfortable finish by the season’s finale.

While their most recent away matches in Ligue 1 showed dramatic improvements, Toulouse are not without any issue on inconsistency. Five of their seven defeats this season were incurred on the road, suggesting that they are susceptible to deficits when playing outside their own territory. Overall tally place the side at number 11, with total points earned of 30.

Toulouse show sublime competence when it comes to stealing the ball from their opponents; they are also impressive in terms of protecting the lead and attacking down the wings. However, Alain Casanova’s men have to make some compromises to improve their other skills. The squad make low-key imprint in finishing scoring chances and avoiding the offside.

Football betting tip: Lorient and Toulouse are ranked side by side in the table, with only two points making the difference. As per past meetings, results have tended to put these sides on almost equal capacities. Expect this brawl to end in a deadlock.
