Lorient and Guingamp both lost in their respective matches in Ligue 1’s third week of fixtures: the former were toppled by Lille 2-0 while the latter were beaten by Marseille 0-1. The sides are currently ranked in the 12th and 16th positions, respectively.

FC Lorient

Les Merlus have already obtained all three possible results in just three weeks of the French top-flight football’s new season. While they picked up points from their battles against Monaco 1-2 and Nice 0-0, they failed to earn at least a tiny portion of the spoils from Lille. The side left the pitch with zero goals scored while their opponents successfully attained a double from Delaplace and Kjar in the second half. With key players Wesley Lautoa, Julien Quercia, and particularly Yann Jouffre unable to play in their next fixture, and a plausible replacement to Vincent Aboubakar yet to be scouted, Lorient must work harder to avoid another upset.

EA Guingamp

A poor season opener inflicted Guingamp with a miserable position in Ligue 1’s debut week, but their match against Lens in their second league appearance sent them to flying colors, enabling them to pull off an ascent in the rankings. However, a recent upset at the Stade du Roudourou has pulled them back into the table’s bottom five although this time, they were lucky to narrowly escape the relegation zone. Marseille, their most recent opponents, successfully earned a clean sheet at the expense of Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men, thanks to Andre-Pierre Gignac’s goal in the 46th minute.

Sports betting tip: Guingamp might score at least one goal, but the final tally will ultimately go in favor of Lorient.
