Goals from Alain Traore and Paul-Georges Ntep saw Lorient share the points with their hosts, Rennes. The 1-1 draw did little impact on the sides as far as their Ligue 1 standings are concerned. Les Merlus held the better chances at finding the net with Traore kicking off the supposed scoring saga. However, a good defense from their opposition plus Ntep’s timely equalizer prevented the match from producing a clear winner. With Lorient safely moored in the mid-table, a low-key season finish is expected for the Christian Gourcuff side.

Ajaccio can no longer expect a second straight season with Ligue 1. The side have only earned 20 points from 35 matches and even if they win their last few battles, the competition has already turned away from them. If they scored at least with six more points, they would have a better chance at remaining in the league. L’ours should learn from their past mistakes in the French top-tier football and become better warriors in the second division.

Both Lorient and Ajaccio are being plagued by a long list of sidelined players. Jouffre, Barthelme, Kone, Reale, Diallo, Robert, and Quercia cannot work for Gourcuff due to injuries. Faty is suspended while Sissoko, Diarra, Yakovenko, Cavalli, and Zubar have health issues that coach Christian Bracconi must deal with.

The sides’ past six meetings rendered them almost equal. Two fixtures ended in Lorient’s favor but these deficits were turned around by Ajaccio in another pair of matches. The remainders resulted in stalemates. By aggregate goals, however, the hosts are ahead by two.

Online betting tip: With no inspiration to look up to, Ajaccio will lose all the spoils.
