Although Lens have won more frequently than Saint-Etienne in their last six meetings, the latter are currently performing much better as far as their top-flight form is concerned. In addition, the sides have played in separate leagues last season, with Lens in Ligue 2 and Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1.

RC Lens

Lens spent their first two weeks in the French top-flight football on a rather appalling way. The side lost on both occasions via goalless results, home and away. This caused them to plummet to the 18th spot and faced early threat of a possible relegation. However, resilience made it possible for them to pick up themselves back to the safe zone as they successfully scored points in their next three battles—including victories against Ligue 1 veterans Lyon and Reims. They are now placed within the top half (ninth) for the first time since their season debut, which practically makes them among the dark horses in the tournament.

AS Saint Etienne

Although their 5-0 away loss to defending champions PSG two weeks ago was indeed a source of heartbreak and dismay, Saint-Etienne are still among the strongest sides of the competition. The loss was their only negative result in the new season, so far, as they have managed to win most of their battles. In fact, they are currently positioned in the league table’s fourth spot—just behind Lille, Marseille, and Bordeaux—thanks to their successful comeback which saw them seize all the spoils from Caen following a massive defense and an own goal by Jean Jacques Pierre.

Sports betting tip: Lens will incur their second home defeat this season at the hands of Saint-Etienne.
