Saint Etienne

Match Date: 22 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Armand-Cesari-Furiani

Bastia’s inconsistency disallows them from truly making a spectacular display in the league. They may have never plummeted in the drop zone (yet) but their mid-table stature does not necessarily make them any better than the other lower-ranking clubs. At home, however, this inconsistency issue is only discreetly evident. Out of the 12 home fixtures they had in Ligue 1’s current season, only two finished with zero points; eight of those were victories while the remaining two were draws.

Bastia have decent skills in aerial duels, set pieces, and creating chances, but lack substantial abilities to defend against attacks down the wings and protecting the lead.

Saint Etienne

Currently among the strongest clubs in the French top-flight league, Saint Etienne are ranked fourth in the table. If they are able to maintain a good grip in the competition, they will likely advance to the EUFA Europa League; and if they perform even better, they could secure seeding at the more prestigious Champions League.

The side’s most recent battle finished with moderate success. Brandao’s stoppage-time equalizer ensured Les Verts of a point with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Marseille on weekend. They are now 16 points behind Paris Saint-Germain, the current frontrunners, but could still be able to tighten that gap if they obtain good results in their remaining 13 league matches.

Sports betting tip: The last time Bastia and Saint Etienne met for a face-off, good attacking displays from both sides held them in a draw. But five matches before that, Saint Etienne dominated substantially. In this battle, expect the visitors book another win at their hosts.
