Ligue 1 Match Preview: Bastia vs. Guingamp

Updated: January 27, 2014

Match Date: 01 February 2014 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Armand-Cesari-Furiani

At number 12, Bastia have risen to the winning spots almost in the same rate as they have tumbled down the losers’ zone. They are still nine points clear of the relegation zone, but their inconsistency will make some way to put them closer to the deadly bottom if they nosedive to address issues surrounding some of their major fiascoes, particularly in the defense.

Bastia are known to be takers of long shots and they also often play the offside trap. They are excellent at counter-attacking, but they fall short of faculties when keeping possession of the ball, protecting the lead, and defending counter attacks.

None of Guingamp’s last four away matches finished with three points. They were goalless in three occasions, two of which were defeats and the remainder was a draw. In their most recent fixture, they only forced a stalemate with their opponents but it was moderately impressive as they had table leaders PSG rumble on the same grounds.

Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men are presently ranked at number 14, eight points clear of the relegation zone. However, the side suffers from a poor defense, as evidenced by their negative goal difference.

Sports betting tip: Both Bastia and Guingamp are periled by a poor defense, making this meeting potentially attack-clad. Scoring chances will be numerous, but final scores will ultimately finish in a deadlock.
